Bazile Creek and Groundwater Nitrate Study

For 15 months, from July 2018 to October 2019, research was conducted in the Bazile Groundwater Management Area (BGMA) to study nitrate concentrations in Bazile Creek. The project, conducted by the University of Nebraska Lincoln researchers and grad students, sampled Bazile Creek and its tributaries at 9 different locations.

Bazile Groundwater Management Area Virtual Winter Meetings

The Bazile Groundwater Management Area (BGMA) will be hosting a three-part series of virtual 1-hour webinars via Zoom. The webinars will take place February 19, February 26 and March 5 over the lunch hour, beginning at 12 PM CST. This webinar series is a continuation of the winter informational meetings the BGMA has hosted in-person in years past. The BGMA is co-sponsoring the webinar series with Nebraska Extension with financial support through a Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET) grant.

Nitrogen Certification Classes Scheduled

The 4 Natural Resources Districts (NRDs) in the Bazile Groundwater Management Area (BGMA) have scheduled Nitrogen Certification Classes for their districts. Each district has different requirements on who needs to be nitrogen certified.

Bazile Groundwater Management Area seeks Project Coordinator

The Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD) is accepting applications for the full-time position of Bazile Groundwater Management Area (BGMA) Project Coordinator.

The Project Coordinator will work independently to educate and encourage the adoption of best management practices in an attempt to improve groundwater quality and quantity within the Bazile Groundwater Management Area of Pierce, Knox, and Antelope Counties. The Coordinator will be headquartered at the LENRD office in Norfolk.

Bazile Groundwater Management Area receives grant from Nebraska Environmental Trust

The Bazile Groundwater Management Area (BGMA) announced recently that they will receive $209,500 from the Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET) for year two of the “Development of Research and Demonstration Sites in the BGMA for Groundwater Nitrate Reduction” project.  The project is one of the 118 projects receiving $20,000,000 in grant awards from the Nebraska Environmental Trust this year.
